Nestled within the 2,500-acre Lake Cachuma Recreation Area, the Fireside Amphitheater renovation reimagines a cherished community gathering space that has served park visitors since the 1950s. The project preserves the amphitheater’s historic footprint while introducing a modern venue designed to support educational programs, performances, and community events for years to come.
The renovation includes the complete reconstruction of the stage, backdrop, and seating areas, along with enhanced ADA accessibility, improved lighting, new railings, a rebuilt campfire pit, and an upgraded equipment booth. Careful site planning minimizes impacts to the surrounding landscape while preserving the park’s mature trees and natural character.
Inspired by the iconic Santa Barbara Bowl and drawing architectural cues from the nearby Hook’d Bar & Grill, also designed by Herman Architects, the amphitheater embraces a design language that reflects the character of Santa Barbara County. The result is a welcoming outdoor venue that strengthens visitors’ connection to the park while creating new opportunities for education, recreation, and community engagement.
