Our History
Founded in 1988, Herman Architects is a solution-driven architecture firm based in Los Angeles, California. For more than 35 years, we have programmed, planned, designed, and delivered over ten million square feet of institutional and community-focused space, including civic centers, commercial and residential developments, administrative complexes, educational facilities, and industrial projects.
The diversity of our work has given us a deep understanding of the operational, political, and business considerations that shape today’s communities. From technology and connectivity to security, circulation, and implementation, we approach each project with an appreciation for the many factors that influence its success.
Herman Architects was founded by Richard Herman, an architect recognized for his work in the design, preservation, and restoration of historic buildings. Among his notable projects was the restoration of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Hollywood following the Northridge earthquake.
Today, the firm is led by his son, John Herman, Managing Partner, who continues the legacy of thoughtful, community-focused design established by his father. As John reflects, “His passion paired with his design talent helped restore and transform Los Angeles into a 21st century city.”
